BAM Fostering Animals Program
Part of the program of our ministry is providing companion animals for our residents. As stated in our activities profile, having a companion animal is an important part of rehabilitation and reentry to society. Taking care of an animal helps men develop the responsibility for another living creature, which aids in the process of learning compassion and empathy. These characteristics are vital in becoming useful participants in life after incarceration.
In preparation for our animal care program, BAM is already actively fostering dogs waiting for adoption from local shelters. The dogs we foster are rescue animals that have been abandoned, are strays, or are dogs picked up by animal control. The shelter provides spay and neutering services, medical care and adoption services. BAM provides temporary care for the animals until they are healthy, trained, and ready for adoption. Ralston Purina has been generous in donating food for our animals. Pet Supplies Plus has been helpful in providing various services and discounts for pet supplies.
The CEO of BAM has fostered and trained hundreds of dogs over the years and provides the key structure needed for each animal to be ready for adoption. In most cases, our dogs are ready for adoption a month after we begin care.
Some of the dogs we have fostered include Compton, Precious, Penny, Tigger and Blue Berry. See the phots posted below. Mary Jane, a young albino pit bull, serves as the mascot for our program. Her two siblings have been adopted.
